Bravo! A perfectly incisive analysis of Fosse and All That Jazz.
But I wouldn't worry about your own narcissism in writing in order to be "seen". There's no sin, in an of itself, in desiring to be special or gifted in a particular arena. It's what drives progress, art, innovation and achievement. There's certainly nothing to be ashamed of in wanting to create great art and share it, or one's thoughts about great art, with others.
Fosse was special. He was a genius. His downfall, though, was mundane and typical. His insecurity and need for constant validation caused him to be cruel to the people that loved him. A tale as old as time. He was smart enough to know this, and likely hated himself for it, but not strong enough to do anything about it.
I certainly hope you’re wrong about the inescapable show business of all this, for your sake and ours. (I can’t ever rule it out myself.)
Nah, you’re the exception to the rule Kevin
Oh no, you for sure just heard the air rushing into my head and inflating it, right?
